So you've seen the dementia dimensionally, now see it lay pipe on cable. Tonight at 10/9 C the MTV will be premiering jackass 3 in whatever capacity can be done for the first time ever during the course of its latest #MANCATION weekend. We won't be officially tweeting it up live along with the broadcast, but the MTV is running some other kind of promotion where you'll have the opportunity to win random shit for correctly guessing how many nuts get kicked in the course of the #MANCATION event (and if you haven't guessed it by now it's real important to use that hashtag or you ain't gonna have a corn kernel's chance in Dave England's rectal hell of winning jack shit).

We've said it before and we'll always say it again, but you'll never meet a better (or tougher!) man than Mat Hoffman. If you have to wonder why we say that, then you obviously haven't seen The Birth of Big Air. Like, if you're feeling uninspired, just listen to some of Mat's stories and see if they don't reinvigorate your veins to go out and grab some big, bold, testicular handfuls of life. But don't take my word for it, take Evel Knievel's! Anyway, or Wee, here's a "Cheers!" to Mat on his birthday. Whee!

Remember the first time you sat down to watch jackass number two and were first suddenly swallowed part, parcel, and package by a great gay gaping maw of rainbows and butterflies? The opening sound effect was what really made that moment special, I think, but admittedly my tendencies do run to the hills screaming for vengeance on queer metal moments. Anyway, while the rest of the world goes black barking mad this Friday, you can bask in the moist warmth that is nothing but pink here at Dickhouse. So run along now and grab one of those neat plastic cards in mom's purse or dad's wallet and let them know you care this Christmastime. Believe me, more family memories have been made watching the poo we've extruded throughout the years than any other boring holiday special to have ever been created in the history of the world. ESPN Films 30 for 30: The Birth of Big Air

Lacking inspiration in life? Look no further than this truly heartfelt production presenting the high-flying life and times of BMX legend Mat Hoffman. Throughout his career, Mat ignored conventional limitations; instead focusing his efforts on the purity of the sport and the pursuit of "what's next." His motivations stem purely from his own ambitions, and even without endorsements, cameras, fame, and fans, Mat would still would be working to push the boundaries of gravity. Spike Jonze and Johnny Knoxville, along with director Jeff Tremaine, showcase the inner workings and exploits of the man who gave birth to "Big Air." In the online downtime between jackass 2.5 and jackass 3D, we scraped the bottom of the television tape archives and came up with all sorts of segments that went "missing" and never made it onto the jackass DVD box set. The “Self Defense Test,” “Stun Collar,” “Unicycle Poo Barf,” “Fast Food Football,” “Roller Jump,” and “Satan vs. God” (in its original long ass-kicking form!) are just some of the absurd gold that what was once lost but now is found, not to mention all the original jackass show opens and credit/outtake montages. But wait ... there's more! In addition to all the MIA television clips there's loads of bonus never-before-seen footage, including this really special moment when Dimitry Elyashkevich picked a booger from his Russian nostrils and delicately placed it on Sleep-O's mouth—and now it can be yours! Pressed, packaged, produced and preserved for dumb digital eternity.

It's hard to believe, but yes, we've been kicking, screaming, laughing and pooping for the past 12 years now. Wow ... when put like that it really sounds like a run of the mill description for any mental patient confined to life in a lunatic asylum circa the early 1900s. Anyway, I think this means we've jumped from one generation to the next—much like the Ebola virus jumping from monkeys to humans in Africa—and in the process picked up a whole slew of newcomers to the world of jackass. For these people there now exists this DVD 3-pack of unrated wonders to behold, cherish and share with loved ones throughout the years. Suck it, Capra!

 

The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia

What can I say about the Wild Whites that hasn't been said before? I'm sure there's something of course, but my brain is slowly but surely bowing to the fact it is 3:00am and my stomach is still grinding away the football-sized plate of Thanksgiving food I ingested earlier in the evening. In short, baby's tired and I would happily let anyone put me in a corner just so I could go to sleep and dream a little digestive dream. Yep, there goes the attention span. Oh well. But regardless of whether you're familiar with the cult classic footwork of Jesco White or not, this documentary is sure to open your eyes, drop your jaw and expose you to what director Julien Nitzberg hails as "a portrait of America's last outlaw family."

 

* Okay, except for that time on Beverly Hills 90210 when Clarence helped Miriam out and did that whole cosmic bus collision intervention. That one I totally buy 100-percent.

tony hawk's stand up for skateparks benefit 2012

This past Sunday, Rick Kosick and I buddied up for an afternoon of hot sunny delight at the Tony Hawk Foundation's 9th Annual Stand Up For Skateparks benefit bash held in Beverly Hills, California. I've been to three of them now, including the very first one back in 2004, and they've consistently proven to be a good time with lots of ramp jamming, food cramming and celebrity spotting.

If you've ever wondered about the outbreak of quality concrete public playlands that have proliferated across the United States in low-income communities that generally don't see much in the way of funding for such things, a lot of that financial aid comes from the Tony Hawk Foundation. So whenever this event rolls around they generally pull out all the stops and put on quite the charity auction—both silent and live—to raise funds for their skatepark coffer. This year reeled in $979,000, so here's looking forward to 365 more days of cold concrete poured into hot shit transitional forms!

In terms of onsite entertainment, Tony Hawk, Andy Macdonald, Kevin Staab, Mitchie Brusco, Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins Pastrana, Lincoln Ueda, and BMX legends Jamie Bestwick and Mat Hoffman demonstrated how to use a large U-shaped construction from within netted confines. Soon afterward Jimmy Eat World took the mainstage, right around the time a breeze of respite finally found its way into the city despite all the logistical logjams created by the coincidental presence of President Obama and his big night out in Los Angeles. And lest you think we didn't then think again, because both Rick and I did eat a Hawk dog from Pink's, because no one in their right mind passes up a free wiener gobble.

It's been a while since I've done something stupid (well, not that long, considering I did recently ask a homeless man where I could find an ATM to withdraw some cash in Charleston, SC), but here's an online stuipd—stuipd?—stupid just for you. Why? Because you are special. A snowflake. A butterfly. That last little turd that hangs on for all its fibrous worth before disengaging to join its big brown brothers below. You get the idea. So here it is: jackass bingo! Simply print it out, pop in a DVD, and play along for no real reason at all in the privacy of your own home, apartment, or squat. No dress code is required to do so, but it is always fun to imagine people watching movies in nothing but their underpants (or, if it's a marathon, in Depends adult diapers).

Fair disclosure: This is by no means an original idea. In fact, I borrowed (stole) the concept after seeing a much more hipster version of it called "Wes Anderson Bingo", but that takes likes smarts and shit to play, whereas this is just dumb and isn't far off from real shit. Plus, because of the sheer amount of crossover content, cast clusterfucks, and peanut galleries galore, queries will surely arise like, "Well, it's throw up and it's Steve-O, so where pray tell do I put my official jackass bingo chip?" In the end, I suggest doing what Jesus would do: Live fast, work with wood, make some fish wine, raise some zombies, and don't leave a beautiful corpse behind. Godspeed and good luck making little to no sense of it!*

* Worst case, you can always tap on the image, print it out, and decorate your refrigerator or toilet lid.

on this day in jackass history...

Dateline—February 24, 2008: Much like the 'Nam, we were trudging shit deep through the night and into the butt-cold early morning dawn during the jackass(world) 24-hour takeover of the MTV studios in New York City. In fact, at this very moment we might have been shivering outside while chowing down on April Margera's pancakes. Or maybe we were sweating it out with Chris Pontius during his manly workout symposium. Whatever the case, we'd lost Steve-O, were on the verge of losing Bam Margera, and dance parties were soon to be the delirious rage as we stumbled toward Hour 24 and the finish line.

We came out of the gate hot and hard—so hard—at noon the previous day. Party Boy had run through streets with several more partyin' boys in tow; Danger Ehren had his hair prematurely ripped out during a Nair cut; Steve-O did his best Ali Boo-boo impression as the "Sultan of Soda" and then later rapped to the terror of many; Bam and Phil Margera went toe-to-toe in weenie feeding; Rick Kosick zapped the cat-walking shit out of Danger Ehren during a spelling bee; Dave England spent life in a cage as a menace to society; Wee Man spent life in a hot dog cart as a menace to society; Preston Lacy was without a doubt the biggest loser when it came to drawing the short bus card in a horrible tattoo game; Jeff Tremaine not only got an earfull of Bronx bum shit but had his ass handed to him in a late-night round of "Dizzy Boxing" with Kosick; and Johnny Knoxville underwent wardrobe change after wardrobe change as he gingerly danced the night away during one of many music video wake-up stints.

Numerous friends dropped by for the sleepover, including Mat Hoffman, Loomis Fall, Scott Manning, Dale Watson, Manny Puig, the Lakai team, Zach Galifianakis, Maximillion "Mr. Gumball" Cooper, and a host of stunty participants, big and small, during the world broadcast debut of Mat Hoffman's Tribute to Evel Knievel (and Knoxville's torn urethra!).

All of this and more now sits locked in a vault somewhere. Perhaps clues to its second coming are buried in the Book of Revelations under a pile of reckoning shit about armageddon, a beast, and 666 other prophesies that couldn't have been more unclear and open to wide misinterpretation, but don't bet on it. There is a highlight show that still sees the occasional late-night rotation within the MTV sect, so enjoy it while it lasts, alright*?

What's up, ese? More like what the fuck is an ese, you know? I once found myself on the receiving end of an ese in 1989 that had me scrambling over a schoolyard chain-link fence in Santa Barbara, California, amid a rain of aspiring vato punches—but that's a story for another episode of Mi Vida Loca. Let's just stick to the photographic matter at hand and address the four OG BMXicans as they posed in Bithlo, Florida, circa 2002. We were "Camp Paining" it for a three-day stand on jackass the movie then, two of which were partially absorbed by a "BMXican Wakeboarding bit that never really panned out cinematically.

My memories on this appear to have brain-panned out over time as well, because Mat Hoffman is the only one I can really remember making anything to make ado about (as seen on yesterday's official Mat Hoffman birthday post). But I think Ryan Dunn may have given it a shot—a brief, failing shot. And Chris Pontius may have tried to walk the walk, because he definitely talked the talk. Danger Ehren ... ah, what the heck ... I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he scratched a labia on it, too. In the end, it was just a failed excuse to buy time as Tim Payne and his Keebler elves finished up work on the equally failed "Rube Goldberg" experiment that fell from potential movie close grace to definite DVD bonus feature filler.

Incidentally, this scan came from a 35mm slide that I didn't exactly bother to take the time cleaning up. Hence that pubic-looking hair dangling oh so appropriately up by Danger Ehren's head. Boom!

Anyone that has seen The Birth of Big Air knows Mat Hoffman has lived more life in his now 40 years on Earth than most men will ever live in a lifetime (or lifetimes, in the case of any reincarnated Hindus). He is, without a doubt, a true inspirational hero to any kid with an independent spirit and a flair for the air, and for that we salute him on the day of his birth—Happy Birthday, Mat!

Jeff Tremaine! He's an official 2010 Peabody Award recipient. Now, anyone physically familiar with Tremaine knows he has anything but a pea body—it's more like a well-toned eggplant—but that's just me being silly (for no quantifiable reason whatsoever). That sillily said, it's nice to see Tremaine recognized for his directorial contribution to ESPN Film's 30 For 30 series. More specifically, The Birth of Big Air, featuring the daredevil trailblazing's of BMX legend Mat Hoffman. If you have not yet seen this flick (for no quantifiable reason whatsoever), it's an absolute must and a sure-fire kick in the dick for anyone in need of some inspiration and/or motivation in life. It's going ... going ... gone? Not quite sure if our special edition anniversary book jackass 10 years of stupid is headed the way of the dodo pasture, but from the not-so-in-stock look of things over on Amazon that just may be the case. We really had the best of intentions for throwing a big coming out party for the book last October, like a full cast signing in a major metropolitan city, but, well, I missed the original deadline and blew that widow of opportunity. Technically, I guess an excuse for something did go down in Las Vegas during one of Bam's club appearances, but that really was tantamount to farting in a dust storm. Eh, "Say la vee," as the French-Canadian c'est.

in memory of ryan dunn, pt. 5—mat hoffman

I don’t know how to get this lump out of my chest and this sickening feeling in my gut, but I hope to lessen it by praising one of the greatest men I’ve ever known. Ryan Dunn was the coolest soul that could back up anything thrown in front of him—which is saying a lot hanging around Jeff, Knoxville, and Bam, just to mention a few. I mean, come on, Ryan could stick a car up his ass with more class than a Dos Equis beer commercial.

When I first met Ryan I was stoked to hear he rode. On further investigation, I noticed he “rode” but never away… When we were shooting the "Snake River Redemption", I knew it was designed for utter failure but you would never know by the heroism glowing out of Ryan. I was just a part of the peanut gallery and was way more nervous than him. I couldn’t even get a funny thought out of my mind because I was staged to watch my friend mangle himself and Ryan was way too proud to do it! Jeff, thanks for taking the landing ramp away. We all new that wasn’t needed. The funny thing is, in Ryan’s state of mind it was a total liability. This wasn’t about pulling it, this was about setting the record for the greatest crash! Ah ha! Committed to the success of failure! Ryan was the master. If he had to bleed for it that was just a lil' extra gift for you and he would do it with “Looney Tunes” style. Ryan was the master at taking his sarcasm head first and doing it with one-of-a-kind elegance.

At times like these, I find myself devastated and pissed off at what was taken from me, but that's a really selfish way to look at it. I drill myself that the only thing I can control is the memory I have when I think of the loss. I’m in the process of replacing this feeling of devastation and tragedy with memories of all the amazing times Ryan gave us. We are all so lucky because of Ryan. If it weren’t for Ryan, I would never know this elevated state of cool, calm and collectiveness in the midst of complete anarchic ridiculousness.

There will never be another Ryan Dunn, and we are all so lucky he gave us so much. This mold was broken. Ryan, you were a cool I will always strive for forever. You will always be remembered, buddy. Ryan Dunn, you will always be my HERO.

music video: "memories" by weezer and jackass

With all the talk of jackass 3.5 the unrated movie on DVD, Blu-ray, VOD and DTO this week it kinda makes me want to go back there ... so go back I shall! Last August while the soundtrack was being hashed out to accompany jackass 3D, Jeff Tremaine was asked to direct a music video for the song "Memories" by Weezer featuring backing “vocals” (for lack of a better word) by the jackass cast. This was meant to be a quick, down, dirty, and low budget job, so what better place to shoot such a thing than at the legendary Pink Motel pool in Sun Valley, California.

The song itself had entirely different meaning to the two parties involved in what became an old school pool party, but for many of us our “memories” pertained to—what else—Search For Animal Chin with a deep-end dash of Skate Visions (the latter of which an obvious attempt was made to recreate a similar "guitar carve" a la Agent Orange, but Chris Pontius eventually had to step in and school Weezer bassist Scott Shriner in the proper move as Salba scored the death box below).

The mental souvenir taken home by most everyone that day came when Christian Hosoi effortlessly popped over pool props Johnny Knoxville, Dave England and Steve-O, as there’s nothing so great as seeing icons from the past still laying it out in the present.
